My Philosophy & Objective
Basketball Development PhilosophyPhilospophy
A coaches’ philosophy is an important ingredient that all coaches must possess.
It’s vital that we’re constantly recognising, embracing and refining that philosophy. Reason being, the more experience that we acquire as a coach, the more our philosophies inherently evolve.
Because of this, our philosophies must constantly adapt to who we are coaching, whether a team, group or individual and also whether or not we are coaching skill development or basketball games for amateurs or professionals.
Residing in Australia for almost 20 years and having coached on the junior, semi-professional and professional levels respectively, I am aware of how challenging coaching can be, particularly on the amateur levels where players and parents can find themselves and their children ‘left behind’!. In addition, post players are routinely forgotten, underdeveloped & under-coached!
Most juniors only train once or twice a week! In comparison to other codes like swimming, rowing, etc., that’s wholeheartedly not enough training time to achieve nor sustain sufficient skills for limited and coveted positions.
Even experienced coaches don’t always have the time, insight or resources to effectively address the skill development of his/her players! With only a couple of training sessions per week, they barely have enough time to put in their defensive and offensive systems!
Above all, this is especially true for our ‘volunteer coaches’!
“The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood concepts for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams, who want to do things. Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft”.

OBJECTIVE
Therefore, if you as an individual player or your child is experiencing a lack of adequate training time and/or game-time to properly develop basketball skills and IQ, than the game will inevitably become difficult and frustrating!
‘KEVIN BROOKS BASKETBALL SERVICES AND CONSULTANCY’ was specifically created to address the needs of players, parents and coaches who find their skills deteriorating, their children disillusioned and their coaching efforts inadequate!
As a former player, current coach and skill development instructor, I understand how to teach players, parents and coaches based on their individual skill levels, game knowledge and experience or lack thereof.
Participants will learn:
- Basic Fundamentals of Basketball
- Comprehension of Roles
- Game Situations & Strategy
- Communication
- Work Ethic
- Teamwork
- How to Scout opposition players & teams
Shortly thereafter, they will come to the realisation of how much time, energy and effort one must invest in themselves and their craft in order to get better.
In fulfilment of these proceedings, players will have improved skill sets, parents will have increased basketball acumen and coaches will have refined their strategies and techniques.
I hope to see you soon.
Kind Regards,
Kevin ‘KB’ Brooks
